For Pet Parents

Comfort, Quality of Life & End-of-Life Decisions

If you’re here, you’re likely worried about your pet—and wondering what comes next. You’re not alone. These are some of the most common questions we hear from families.

  • If you’re asking this question, it’s often the right time to start the conversation. Hospice care can help when your pet has a chronic, progressive, or terminal condition—and the focus is shifting from cure to comfort. You don’t have to wait for a crisis. Starting earlier allows for more support, better planning, and more meaningful time together.

  • Pets are very good at hiding discomfort, so the signs can be subtle. You may notice changes in mobility, appetite, behavior, or restlessness. Sometimes it’s simply a feeling that “something isn’t right.” We help you look at these changes more objectively using quality-of-life and pain assessment tools, so you can better understand your pet’s comfort and well-being.

  • A quality of life assessment helps answer one of the hardest questions: Is my pet still enjoying their life?
We look at comfort, mobility, appetite, hydration, engagement, and overall daily experience. This gives you a clearer picture of where things stand—and helps guide next steps with confidence.

  • Yes—some families choose to support a natural death, and we can help guide you through what that may look like. It’s important to understand that natural death is not always peaceful, and symptoms can arise that may cause discomfort. Our role is to help you understand all options so you can make the most compassionate decision for your pet.

  • Hospice care and euthanasia are not opposites—they often work together. Hospice supports your pet while they are still experiencing comfort and connection. Euthanasia is considered when suffering outweighs quality of life. We help you navigate that space so you don’t feel like you’re guessing or alone in the decision.

  • There is rarely a perfect moment—but there is a moment where your decision is made from love, awareness, and a desire to prevent suffering. There’s never a right time - but rather a “window of time”. We help you find clarity in that space, so your decision feels informed, supported, and compassionate.

FOR VETERINARY TEAMS

Referrals, Collaboration & Client Support

We partner with veterinary teams to provide additional support for clients navigating end-of-life care—without adding to your team’s workload.

  • We act as an extension of your care team, offering quality-of-life assessments, client education, and ongoing support between visits—so your clients feel guided and your team feels supported.

  • Consider referring when:

    • A pet has a chronic or terminal condition

    • Clients are struggling with decision-making

    • You’re seeing repeated quality-of-life conversations

    • Families need more support than a visit allows

Earlier referrals often lead to better outcomes for both the client and your team.

  • End-of-life care can be emotionally and time intensive. We help by:

    • Supporting clients outside of appointments

    • Reducing prolonged or repeated QoL discussions

    • Providing consistent guidance between visits

This allows your team to focus on medical care while knowing your clients are supported.

  • We work alongside your team—not around you.
We do not diagnose or prescribe, and we align with your medical recommendations. Communication can be tailored to your preferences.

  • While clients are welcome to schedule online, by phone, or by text, the most client-friendly method is for veterinary teams to complete the online referral form on the client’s behalf whenever possible. This allows our team to reach out directly and initiate contact. We understand that this can be a very difficult first step for many families, and we’re here to help make it just a little easier.
